Hello, my name is Marc.
I am an entrepreneur. I love to create products people use and build companies people want to join.
My first company is Contour, which I co-founded after graduating from the University of Washington and was fortunate enough to lead from a garage to a much larger business. Without any expectations, I started Contour knowing that at a minimum I would learn a lot. Nine years later I have learned more than I ever could have imagined both personally and professionally.
My goal with this blog is to share some of these lessons. When I started Contour I had very little guidance about what company I wanted to create or what kind of entrepreneur I wanted to become. I have a much deeper sense of that now and hopefully by sharing I can inspire fellow entrepreneurs, educate interested people, and shed a little light on what it’s like to build a company.
I’m still figuring out all the topics I’ll write about, but most of my experiences fall into:
Starting Up – building a company foundation based on what you believe in, finding the right co-founders, and everything you go through to get off the ground.
Products – how to know what your customers really need, building great product experiences, and how to bring those products to market.
Strategy – how to think about the business, the market, and beating your competition.
Culture – creating a sustainable culture, managing people, and building teams.
Capital – figuring out what kind of capital you need, raising it, and how to manage all the relationships involved.
It’s Personal – the psychology of being an entrepreneur, your sanity, and everything that affects you as a person.
I’m looking forward to the discussion!
